The Hyannis Youth & Community Center
It's all about the kids! "This facility is so desperately needed by our youth. We are excited to announce that groundbreaking for the site work is now slated for April 2007 and completion of the Hyannis Youth and Community Center is scheduled for the last quarter of 2008!
Barnstable Town Council President Hank Farnham accepts a $1 million check from Mark Thompson, President of the Lyndon P. Lorusso Foundation for the new Hyannis Youth & Community Center. Joining Mr. Farnham and Mr. Thompson for the ceremony were Dave Chase, President of the Hyannis Youth & Community Center Foundation, Andrew Court, Lorusso Foundation Trustee, and Town Manager John Klimm. Due to rising costs, the projected cost of the Center has increased from $15 million to $18 million. The Town of Barnstable has graciously stepped up to the plate again and committed to an additional $3 million to cover this shortfall. In recognition of the Town’s commitment to increase their original $9 million appropriation by a full third, we are asking all of our donors to consider joining us in matching the Town's commitment and increasing their pledges. Any additional funds will be used to help preserve elements of the plan that may have to be cut due to funding limitations and to help furnish the facility with needed equipment. In partnership with the Town of Barnstable, the Hyannis Youth & Community Center Foundation launched a capital campaign in 2003 to raise the funds needed to build the Hyannis Youth & Community Center. The Town of Barnstable has now committed $12 million toward the construction of the Center and the Foundation has raised an additional $6 million in grants and private contributions. One million has been received from the US Department of Education through the efforts of Senator Kennedy. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts contributed $3.5 million through the efforts of Senator Therese Murray, Senator Rob O'Leary, Representatives Demetrius Atsalis and Jeffrey Perry, and Governor Mitt Romney. An additional $1.5 million was raised in private contributions, most notably a gracious $1 million gift from the Lyndon P. Lorusso Foundation. The Hyannis Youth & Community Center, a state of the art facility, will provide much needed recreational and community services to the youth and residents of the Town of Barnstable. We are excited about the prospect of this facility and invite your support and contributions to this worthy project! Hyannis Youth & Community Center Foundation
